The WICT Network: New England chapter had a delicious breakfast and networking session the morning of April 25, 2023. Our speaker Leigh Woisard, Chair, The WICT Network Global Board of Directors, discussed PR Tips to boost your career!

Leigh is a former SVP of PR at Cox Communications and recently assumed the role of Chair on The WICT Network: Global board. Her “How to Avoid the Guillotine” session was the 2nd highest rated session at The WICT Network Leadership Conference in October; we’re thrilled to bring her message to our members that weren’t able to attend.

During “How to Avoid the Guillotine & Other PR Tips for Boosting Your Career,” Leigh shared lessons on using the tried and true practices of PR to boost your career, a must for professionals that can be overlooked since they’re so busy promoting others.

Areas Leigh covered:

  • Taking control of your career narrative.
  • Identifying your “one thing.” What’s your professional genius? It’s good to be well-rounded, but it pays to be known for something. What’s your one thing?
  • How to tell and sell your one thing so that as jobs and promotions become available, people have a clear impression of what you bring to the table.
  • Generating buzz about you and what you bring to the table. What’s worse than being talked about? Not being talked about!
  • How to not be your own mean girl.

Here’s What Our Members Thought

…we learned about not being your own “mean girl” and getting out of our own way by advocating for yourself. I learned positive ways to be a self-advocate and make your one thing known, and why it is important to do so. Hard work does not always speak for itself!

Well done. Helps women realize it’s ok to promote yourself, and to be Brave, not perfect.

Leigh was able to take the “ick” out of self promotion and make it a digestible ,easy message to absorb. And, she is highly articulate, engaging and compelling. Looking forward to hearing more from her!

This was a great talk in a wonderful setting. Next time it could have been a few minutes longer!
