On Saturday July 9, WICT members were invited to participate in the Red Dress Run for Women in Elizabeth Park in Hartford Connecticut.

Prior to the race, 21 WICT members had a chance to interact and network a bit at a designated WICT New England tent, visit the many vendors giving away information, swag, and coupons. For the second year, the Hartford Marathon Foundation offered a “selfie” tent outfitted with various props. After making the mobile advertising link from participating in the photo op from 2015, the team went for another shot at making the 2016 marketing materials. The WICT New England team showed its enthusiasm by snapping a few fun pictures and sharing on various social media platforms just before heading to the start line.

The Red Dress Run is a 5K run/walk exclusively for women of all ages & abilities to celebrate women’s fitness. The 3.1 mile route started and finished in the beautiful Elizabeth Park Rose Garden (with over 15,000 roses in full bloom!) and traveled through a mix of sun and shade covered residential streets on wide, well paved roads.

Historically, with it being mid-July, the temperature and sun index are always challenging factors. Mother Nature brought mostly cloudy skies, a temperature of 64 which was well below the daily average and low humidity the morning of July 9. The weather made for excellent running conditions. 3 of the WICT Board Members that were in participation had personal bests. At the conclusion of the race, all finishers were given a Hartford Marathon Foundation commemorative bracelet. All members were invited to join WICT New England back at its designated tent for a light breakfast to finish off the morning!

Congratulations to Team WICT New England as it took 3rd place in the team category for the second year in a row! (Total team time: 1:15:04)
